Duration Shingle Nail Strip
The aspect of nailing the shingle can make or break your roof especially in high winds. The Owens Corning Duration Shingle is the only shingle that has three layers for the nailing strip, creating a firm hold. It is also the only shingle that has the largest overlap of material for the nail to go through.
All other architectural shingles only have two layers where the material overlaps, and on top of that, the overlap is so small it is almost impossible for people nailing the shingle to get the nail through both layers.
The Duration shingle has the largest overlap and it has three layers of material to nail through.
Warranty – Duration Shingle Platinum Preferred Prorated Shingle Warranties.
To understand the warranty you must first understand the prorated dynamic. You might hear that a shingle comes with a 50-year warranty but that could be a prorated 50-years, which means by year 45 you would hardly get anything back for that shingle if it malfunctioned.
What you want is a NON-prorated shingle so that way on year 50 you are still getting back 100% value if the shingle malfunctions.
Not every shingle installer can give you a Non-prorated warranty. This only comes with the Enhanced warranties that can only be given by certified installers.
Standard Shingle Warranty – Prorated
The standard is the baseline warranty and is nothing compared to the Enhanced Warranty.
Pulling a bundle of shingles off the shelf will only give you the standard warranty, which is
Enhanced Shingle Warranty – non-prorated
The enhanced warranty is the only way to make sure you are getting the best value out of your warranty. Platinum warranty is the name of the Owens Corning Enhanced warranty which provides you with a 50-year Non-prorated material warranty and a 25-year non-prorated workmanship warranty. This means even if your roofer messes up on your roof, Owens Corning will make sure you get it fixed.
Certified Contractor Warranty
Only a certified installer can give you the Enhanced Warranty. Owens Corning puts a contractor through extensive review in order to certify them. In fact, Owens Corning will even spontaneously inspect our jobs to make sure we are continuing proper installation practices with the Duration Shingle.
Algae Resistance For Duration Shingle
Algae resistance is important in South Florida so Owens Corning has spent the past 30-years perfecting the algae resistance on their Duration Shingle.
Providing the industry-standard limited 10-year warranty on algae resistance. See warranty information for specifics.
Owens Corning Duration Shingle System
Every roof requires a full system of flashing, ventilation, underlayment, and more.
The Duration Shingle performs best when you have the full system installed.
Each component brings value to your home and insurance that you are able to get the Enhanced Warranty.
Florida Shingle Roof Regulations And Process
Because of the severe weather conditions here in South Florida, this shingle comes highly recommended because of all the features mentioned above.
No other shingle on the market is ready to withstand the high winds as the Duration Shingle is.
Every roof here in South Florida that we install is fully inspected before and after by county permitting offices.
We also hire a third-party inspector at the end of our job to certify that the roof is in perfect condition
